Class Discussion:

  1. Ask students ‘what is bullying’? Students should have a solid understanding of this. Answer: Workplace bullying is verbal, physical, social or psychological abuse by your employer (or manager), another person or group of people at work.

  2. Show the ReachOut.com video 'What can I do about workplace bullying'?

  3. Ask students to take notes on what steps should be taken in the event of workplace bullying.

Key points to discuss with students:

  • Check work policy

  • Talk to a trusted person/manager/supervisor/HR

  • Talk directly the person of concern

  • You can talk to the police if the bullying is of a threatening nature.

Reliable websites:

  • Australian Human Rights Commission can also be contacted to take your complaint further if you are been bullied, harassed or discriminated against because of your race, sex, age, sexual orientation, religion or because you have a disability or are pregnant.

  • The Commonwealth Fairwork Ombudsman can provide information and advice about Australia’s workplace rights and rules and the protection you have against harassment and discrimination.

  • SafeWork NSW can provide advice and help if you are experiencing workplace bullying.
